Book in for Sunday
The Chelsea Library, Kings' Road has opened on Sundays. The
library opens from 1 pm to 5 pm with all services running as
normal.
The Council launched Sunday opening so that residents and visitors have an
extra day to use the services offered. It is hoped that this will be another way to
encourage greater engagement between people of all ages and books, the
internet and all the other services a modern library offers. The Council will be
testing the opening for nine months and then, if successful, will look at
extending this to other libraries in the borough.
With the recession taking hold over recent months, the use of the Royal
Borough's libraries has increased with membership numbers soaring and visitor
numbers up by six percent compared with last year. The Council hopes that
Sunday opening will reflect this demand for services.
Councillor James Husband, Cabinet member for Libraries said, "With residents
working or at school in the weekdays this is a great way for people to be able to
use the library for another day over the weekend. With almost all shops open
now on Sundays it is fitting that the Chelsea Library should be too."
